According to the Association of Play Therapy, play therapy can be defined as "the systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained play therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development." Play therapy allows clinicians to meet children where they are at and to speak their language through play. Play therapy can help resolve numerous problems and issues a child may be experiencing.
We offer a variety of evidence-based counseling services, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or TF-CBT. TF-CBT is a structured model that will help children and adolescents work through their past trauma. This includes processing of their traumatic event and learning new coping skills to help manage the effects of their trauma. TF-CBT has been proven successful in decreasing symptoms associated with traumatic events.
Sand tray therapy is an additional technique that may be implemented to assist young people in expressing their emotions without using words. Sand tray includes the use of sand and miniatures, or small objects to express the client's inner world and/or create stories. Sand tray is a hands-on expressive approach that may be beneficial for numerous presenting problems.
